The first women’s fight for a WBC world title in a Riyadh season is due to make history.
Australian Skye Nicolson will defend her WBC featherweight title against English Raven Chapman on October 12, vying for pecking order, on the card headlined by the fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Nicolson (11-0, 1 KO), 28, is one of the best fighters per round around and will look to make the second defense of her WBC crown against Chapman (9-0, 2 KOs), 30, a dangerous quality opponent.
Nicolson, from Yatala, Australia, trains in England and reports ready and excited for this great challenge. No crowing or platitudes. Just plainly:
“I feel very honored to have this privilege. Raven and I have the responsibility to put on a show for the fans, to be in a real fight where we show that women can fight, that women can be strong and feminine.
“I feel that it is a really empowering position to be in, to inspire women as well. I feel very honored to be in this position and to be part of this movement, and I hope that it is a step in the right direction, hopefully the first of many. Hopefully we can start seeing women’s fights on all the cards of the Riyadh Season”.
