Jesús “El Mono” Ramos conquered the World Boxing Council Interim Middleweight title by defeating fellow American Shane Mosley Jr. via unanimous decision at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
The bout was closely contested from start to finish, but Ramos displayed a superior offense, landing more massive power punches, and ultimately imposing himself soundly with scorecards of 117-111, 116-112, and 117-111.
With the victory, Ramos improved his record to 24-1 with 19 knockouts, while Mosley Jr.’s record fell to 22-5 with 12 knockouts.
“I stayed true to myself. I’m not going to lie to you, it was a tough fight. I actually had my right hand injured during my last three weeks of training and I didn’t spar for four of them. So it was hard to get the timing right, as I was going in and out of the rhythm I wanted to maintain. I faced a lot of obstacles, but I told my family there was no way I was leaving San Antonio without the WBC belt,” commented Ramos.
