On July 27th, at the Benito Juárez Auditorium in Veracruz, Mexico, Esneidy “Leona” Rodríguez retained her WBC atomweight Silver title BIGTIME, in front of her home crowd.
The champion dominated the five-round fight. She showed impeccable technique and jarring, jolting punching precision, which led her to knock out her opponent, Thai fighter Wisuta Sririttidet, in the fifth round.
Rodríguez maintains her perfect/purrfect undefeated record and secured the first knockout of her professional career.
Present at the WBC “Martes de Cafe”, Esneidy commented: “I am honored to be here again after a successful defense. We will have a defense in September against a quality Japanese opponent. I would love to fight in Saudi Arabia and want to ask the WBC and Don Mauricio to give us that opportunity.”
Mauricio commented: “Champion, you will always have the support of the WBC. I remember that fight in Hamburg during our Convention, was the best of the night. I want to take this opportunity to recognize your promoter, Gustavo Atilano, who has risked everything and has put in a lot of effort along with Esneidy to succeed and grow by leaps and bounds in boxing. They will surely have the opportunity to fight for the world title soon. They have the support of the WBC to continue growing in their career.”
Atilano, said: “We have been working our way up from Esneidy’s beginnings, always looking for good fights. Thanks to the WBC, we were given the opportunity to become Silver champions, and that’s just one step… We’re going for more; we hope to face the absolute champion soon.”
