The World Boxing Council bantamweight champion , Mexican Alejandro “Peque” Santiago (28-3/14KOs), 28 years old and from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, held a training session open to the media in Japan, where he showed that he in tip top shape
Santiago will face the 26-year-old undefeated former world fly and super flyweight champion Junto Nakatani (26-0/19KOs), on Saturday, February 24 at the Kokugikan Arena in Tokyo, for the first defense of his WBC bantamweight title, which he won in July 2023 in Las Vegas, by defeating the legendary Nonito Donaire by unanimous decision.
Santiago commented at the end of the training:
“I know that my rival is a great young fighter, hungry and with very good attributes. I love these types of challenges because I know that by beating a fighter like this with a tremendous resume, I will go to a higher level and better fights.
“We have been working very hard. One of my beliefs is that fights are won in the gym, mainly by preparing yourself very well, the time, the work ethic, the effort. That way on the day of the fight everything will conclude. We are ready to return home with the title.”
