Lupe Pintor took the World Boxing Council bantamweight championship from Carlos Zarate with a split decision at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
The loss was only the second in 56 fights for Zarate, who entered at 117½ pounds.
Pintor, who weighed the class limit of 118, went down in the fourth round from a right‐left combination to the head. There were no other knockdowns.
Two judges, Harold Buck and Art Lurie, scored 143‐142 for Pintor, while another judge, Bob Martin, had it 145 – 133 for Zarate.
