1958.- Sugar Ray Robinson, considered by many to be the best boxer of all time, became middleweight world champion for the fifth time by beating another great, Carmen Basilio, by split decision in 15 rounds, in a match held at Chicago Stadium. The referee, Frank Sikora, gave his score in favor of Basilio and judges John Bray and Franklin Spike McAdams saw Robinson as the winner. The fight was considered the best of the year by “The Ring”.
1974.- North American George Foreman knocked out Ken Norton in the second round, in Caracas, Venezuela. In this combat the WBC heavyweight title was on the line.
1991.- At the Great Western Forum in Inglewood, California, Mexican Melchor Cob Castro knocked out Filipino Rolando Pascua in the tenth round. With this victory, Cob Castro conquered the WBC light flyweight title.
2006.- In a fight held in Kobe, Japan, Hozumi Hasegawa knocked out Thai Veeraphol Nakhonluang in the ninth round. With this victory Hasegawa defended the WBC bantamweight title.
