1989.- Super lightweight champion Regis Prograis was born. Originally from New Orleans and living in Houston, Texas, he conquered the WBC 140-pound title by defeating Mexican José Zepeda in California.
1997.- One of the best southpaws of all time, Pernell Whitaker, knocked out the skilled Cuban Diobelys Hurtado in the eleventh round, defending his WBC welterweight title, in a bout held in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
2004.- The Canadian Arturo Gatti was crowned WBC super lightweight champion by defeating the tough Italian Gianluca Branco by decision. The bout took place at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
