
Venezuelan Boxer’s Day is celebrated in honor of that country’s boxing legend, Carlos “Morocho” Hernández, who became the first Venezuelan to win a world title.
1985.- Former Mexican champion Ricardo “Finito” López made his pro debut, defeating his compatriot Rogelio Hernández by knockout in 3 rounds, in Cuernavaca, Morelos, Mexico.
1984.- Japan`s Koji Kobayashi knocked out the Filipino Frank Cedeño in two rounds at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, to defend his World Boxing Council flyweight title.
1986.- Thai Samart Payakarun knocked out the Mexican Lupe Pintor in 5 rounds, in Bangkok, to win the WBC super-bantamweight title. Pintor arrived as champion, but could not mark the limit of the division (122 pounds) and lost the crown on the scale.
1995.- Japanese Hiroshi Kawashima defeated Mexican José Luis Bueno by decision, to defend his WBC super flyweight title.
1997.- Oscar De la Hoya made the first defense of his WBC super lightweight championship, defeating Miguel Angel González by unanimous decision in twelve rounds. The match took place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
2001.- American Willie Jorrin defeated Mexican Oscar Larios by unanimous decision, in a great fight, to defend his WBC super-bantamweight title, in a card held in Sacramento, California.
2003.- Konstantin Tszyu knocked out James Leija in the seventh round, defending his WBC super lightweight title, in an evening held in Melbourne, Australia.
2014.- Canadian Jean Pascal defeated his compatriot Lucian Bute by decision, in Montreal, Canada, winning the prestigious WBC Diamond belt, in a bout that was also a light heavyweight eliminator.
