John Joseph Monaghan, better known as “Rinty” Monaghan, who retuned to his country as a war hero after WW 2, became European and world flyweight champion defeating Maurice Sandeyron by UD, in a bout that took place at the Kings Hall in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Referee was C.B. Thomas.
