On this day in history, Gatti defeats Branco to become two-weight champion

Arturo Gatti defeated Gianluca Branco to win the WBC super lightweight title and become a two-weight world champion.

Gatti, in his first fight since an epic career-defining trilogy with Micky Ward, dropped Branco in the 10th round before securing a unanimous decision to win his second world title.

The Italian-born Canadian defended the 140lb belt twice.

“Thunder” Gatti passed on 2009; however, his legacy and his spirits is always in our thoughts.
