On this day in history, Duran ends Takayama’s world title challenge

 Roberto Duran destroyed Masataka Takayama in one round to defend his world lightweight crown. The Panamanian legend floored Takayama three times in the Japanese champion’s first and last world title fight. Duran vacated five years later to conquer three more weight divisions in a 119-fight career which spanned five decades.
