Local boxer Conrado Martínez is the “Ten Gallon” toast of Odessa, Texas winning the 118-pound category of “The Big Belt Championship.”
It`s a tournament presented by American promoter, with Mexican roots, The Boxing Showcase, with the approval of the World Council Boxing.
Cheers rang out around the Diamond Event Center Hall when announcer Antonio Perkins declared Conrado was declared the winner by unanimous decision (40-35, 40-35 and 38-37) against Dom “Dynamite” Griffin.
In the third round Conrado landed a big right to Griffin’s face, which made him stagger and put his glove on the canvass, so the Referee gave him a count.
With this victory Conrado Martínez (3-0) put an end to Griffin’s undefeated record (4-1-1, 2 KO) by handing him his first setback as a pro. In so doing, he won The Big Belt Championship that recognizes him as the champion of this first edition tournament.
“Chato” Ramírez and Minor drew:
In the first final of the night, Mexican Edgar “Chato” Ramírez and Texan Dionardo “Dino” Minor fought to draw, a high-voltage match, which provided a fitting warm up to the fight of the night.
Ramírez and Minor fought hard from the first bell and ended the brawl in a fierce exchange, which brought thousands of fans who packed the Diamond Event Center to their feet.
One of the Judges scored it for Minor, another for Ramírez and one more saw a draw, so this night there was no Heavyweight champion of The Big Belt Championship tournament.
