Naseem Hamed, born in Sheffield, United Kingdom, but with ancestry from Yemen, is one of the most remembered fighters of the 90s.
Brendan Ingle, an Irish boxer who had a gym in Sheffield, where he trained boys from the area, was fundamental in the construction of this phenomenon. Johnny Nelson, Junior Witter and Kell Brook also trained there and with him, who also became world champions.
Already as a professional, the “Prince” captivated many for his eccentricity, his talent, his speed and performance that surpassed any rival who dared to challenge him at his best moment.
Naseem had a record of 35 victories, 31 of them by knockout, and zero losses. His outstanding career led him to be European bantamweight champion at just 20 years old and then he was world featherweight champion.
With his leopard-design underwear he gained fans and detractors and, after signing with Frank Warren, his entrances to the ring were full of spring and he further enhanced his persona,
The only defeat he had was in 2001 against the Mexican Marco Antonio Barrera, who managed to decipher his style.
