Nine years ago, renowned boxing artist Richard T Slone gifted Rasheda Ali Walsh and Jamillah Ali Joyce each with a portrait he had painted of their famous father. Now the twins are converting the gift from Slone to an NFT so that they may gift others in memory of their father. Most likely in areas of Parkinson’s research and inner city boxing.
The Ali twins are auctioning off the unique piece on the https://opensea.io digital market place starting today and lasting through Father’s Day.
In a market that values scarcity, this NFT ranks rare because of the heart-warming backstory.
Jamillah Ali Joyce stated, “I will never forget the moment Richard presented us with the portraits because when Richard showed us his art, my father reached out for it when he saw his own face. My father was mesmerized by the bright colors in the painting”.
Another significant fact about the painting is that the artist who created it was a Joe Frazier protégé who was trained by and lived with Frazier for 10 years before Slone stopped boxing to focus on art.
Slone talked about the dichotomy. “ I was fortunate to meet a lot of people by being with Joe but I met nobody bigger than Ali and what impressed me about Ali was how respectfully he talked about Joe.”
Rasheda Ali Walsh added, “ Joe Frazier was my father’s greatest opponent and the fighter he respected the most. We are deeply flattered Richard T Slone did such an amazing job capturing our father. It is no wonder he is the official Artist for the International Boxing Hall of Fame”
