
The World Boxing Council and its President Mauricio Sulaimán, mourn the death of the former Venezuelan world champion Luis Alberto “Lumumba” Estaba at the age of 86.
Born in Güiria, Sucre, on August 13, 1938, Lumumba was the sixth world boxing champion from Venezuela by winning the World Boxing Council light flyweight title in 1975.
He fought around 127 amateur fights and exceptionally entered professional boxing in 1967 at the age of 29 and until 1978 with a professional record of 41 wins (27 knockouts) 9 losses and 2 draws.
At 37 years old, he won the WBC title by knocking out Paraguayan Rafael Lovera in September 1975 at the legendary Nuevo Circo de Caracas and successfully defended her title on eleven occasions.
In his retirement, he dedicated himself to sharing his wisdom and knowledge, ramining a symbol of sport in Venezuela, inspiring several generations.
