The emblematic Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan, once again witnessed the excellence of women’s boxing this past March 12, when Mika Yagio became the new flyweight monarch of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF), an organization affiliated with the WBC.
On a card presented by World Sports, Japanese fighters Nanae Yamaka and Mika Yagio faced off for the vacant title. From the start of the bout, Yagio imposed a superior rhythm, demonstrating a refined technique and absolute control of the ring that neutralized Yamaka’s efforts throughout the episodes.
After completing the regulation distance, the judges confirmed Yagio’s superiority with cards of 72-80, 72-80, and 74-78, granting her a victory by unanimous decision (UD). With this triumph, Mika Yagio consolidates herself as one of the most solid emerging figures in the lower divisions of the Asian region.
The supervision of the encounter was in charge of Tsuyoshi Yasukochi, while Tetsuya Iida served as referee. The panel of judges was composed of Kasutoshi Yoshida, Koji Tanaka, and Katsuhijo Nakamura.
