The super middleweight champion of the World Boxing Council, Saul “Canelo” Álvarez, will defend his crown against Turkish Avni Yildirim, on February 27 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida, host of the Dolphins and Hurricanes.
Miami has been a boxing place throughout history. Today we will remember the famous 5th St. Gym, a key piece of boxing in this city.
Founded by Chris Dundee in 1960, the 5th St. Gym. began promoting boxing in a big way in Miami.

Overseen by Chris and his brother Angelo, the gym was a magnet for a wide range of international celebrities, including Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, Jackie Gleason, Malcolm X, The Beatles, Sean Connery, Frank Sinatra, Sylvester Stallone and a host of others who revered this mythical gym.

There, historical world champions came from Fifth Street. Carmen Basilio, Willie Pastrano and the greatest of all, Cassius Clay, who later became Muhammad Ali.
Without a doubt, this gym helped shape the boxing history from Miami Beach, even becoming a tourist attraction, due to Ali, Basilio, Griffilth, Arche Moore, Willie Pep, Sonny Liston, Roberto Duran and many more.

In 2013, the gym was finally moved from its original location where it had been located for 63 years.
