The World Boxing Council super bantamweight champion, Yamileth Mercado, is ready to fight Paulette Valenzuela this coming Saturday, seeking to make the sixth successful defense of the Green and Gold Belt at the Morelos Convention Center, in Morelos, Mexico.
Yamileth will be drawing on her ample experience. She has fought Amanda Serrano, Alejandra Guzmán and Mariana Juárez. Last March she defeated Kudakwashe Chiwandire, improving her record to 21 wins with 5 knockouts and only 3 losses.
Today, as part of our weekly press conference, we were fortunate to have the participation of both protagonists, linked via zoom.
This is what they commented
Yamileth Mercado, WBC Super Bantamweight Champion:
I am very excited to be here chatting with the press, I feel ready to face my commitment this Saturday.
I am focused solely on this defense. Yes, I want to unify, I want to be undisputed, but first of all we must be focused on this Saturday. There are also plans to go to the bantamweight division, as I have never had a problem with the weight.
I have experience, I am increasingly committed and involved in my work. As my rivals keep coming, I perform better. I have a trusted my team and I just wait to get into the ring to show the results of my work in the gym.
Paulette Valenzuela, Challenger:
I am ready for this great fight against Mercado. Keep your eyes on me, because this weekend, Tijuana will have a new champion.
We have been training hard for three months now. We have seen videos; we have a defined strategy and we are eager to get into the ring.
It’s been almost 10 years as a professional, 10 years working hard, with a lot of mental strength. Conquering this belt represents opportunities. Having this beautiful belt will represent recognition of so much effort and sacrifice.
Mauricio Sulaiman:
We wish them both much success. We will know it will be a great fight. We know that they will put boxing, women and Mexico on high. I am proud of both of them and I know that at the end of the fight, as always, they will congratulate and recognize each other.
May the best win!
