Mercado retains world title
In Mexico City at TV Azteca, Yamileth Mercado kept her WBC super bantamweight title defeating Mariana Barby Juárez, in an intense fight.
The champion from Chihuahua won victory, where there was alternate dominance between both warriors.
Mariana started fast using her jab and aggressively pressing the action. However in the second half of the fight Yamileth countered with hard accurate punches which swelled the Barby visage.
Mariana left no doubt that at 42 years old she is still a high-level fighter. At various points in the fight she pressured Mercado to the max. It was an extraordinary, courageous, intrepid and remarkable effort against the twenty four year old champion.
The judges’ scores were 97-93, 98-92 and 97-93.
