
Reynosa, Tamaulipas. – In an emotional gesture that underscores the alliance between sport and social development, Mauricio Sulaimán Saldivar, President of the World Boxing Council (WBC), was honored with the Key to the City of Reynosa by Mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz.
This recognition was given within the framework of the great international boxing event that brought the excitement of world-class pugilism back to this important border city.
The main event, held last Saturday, October 11, at the UAT Gymnasium, was headlined by the triumphant return of former world champion Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt, who faced the brave Venezuelan Edixon “Cabeza de Gato” Pérez for the exclusive WBC “Reynosa Belt.”
The card, composed of 11 exciting bouts, also included an intense fight for the WBC Female Youth World Championship, where Sheyla “La Dinamita” Moreno Castillo and Brisa “La Fría” Olivia Garibay delivered a true war that culminated in a fair draw, bringing the crowd to its feet.
The visit of Mauricio Sulaimán and the WBC team extended throughout the week, in coordination with the Municipal Government, to carry out various high-impact social activities, promoting the values of sport:
For his part, Mayor Carlos Peña Ortiz has demonstrated a deep commitment to the social recovery of Reynosa, using boxing and other sports as a channel to offer opportunities to youth and foster social mobility, discipline, and dedication in the community.
