In a ceremony held this March 13, 2026, the World Boxing Council conducted the purse bid for the highly anticipated mandatory fight between the WBC World Flyweight Champion, Ricardo Sandoval, and the division’s Interim Champion, Galal Yafai.
The session was presided over by WBC Vice President Alberto León, with the participation of two of the world’s leading promotional companies: Matchroom Boxing and Golden Boy Promotions.
Matchroom Boxing secured the win with a bid of $625,000 USD. Meanwhile, Golden Boy Promotions presented a proposal of $411,000 USD. With this result, Matchroom Boxing earns the right to organize this significant bout, which will define the absolute 112-pound monarch of the WBC.
Faithful to its mission of improving athlete conditions and adding an extra incentive for competitiveness, the WBC will apply its innovative rule for mandatory fights in this contest.
Under this regulation, 90% of the total purse ($562,500 USD) will be divided between both boxers according to the corresponding percentages. The remaining 10% ($62,500 USD) will be reserved as a special bonus for the winner of the fight.
This measure, promoted by the WBC, seeks to reward excellence in the ring and ensure that the victor receives an additional reward for their performance in a high-stakes matchup.
Ricardo Sandoval and Galal Yafai represent the best of the flyweight division. While Sandoval has demonstrated relentless solidity as champion, the Olympic gold medalist and interim champion, Galal Yafai, arrives highly motivated to secure the victory.
The official date and venue for this showdown—which promises to be one of the most technical and exciting of the year under the emblem of the Green and Gold belt—will be announced in the coming weeks.
