Defeated but undaunted, former WBC bantamweight champion, Mariana Juárez, has asked the WBC to give her a rematch against Yulihan Luna, because she wants to show that she has what it takes to win.
Regarding what happened last Saturday night, Mariana first offered an apology for the reaction she had at the end of the fight. In her words, she recognized herself that in the heat of the moment, that she did not react in the best way. However, she explained that at that moment she genuinely felt that “something” was not right, because she felt something that she had never experienced and that for her it seemed abnormal.
She assured that her mistrust is not unjustified, since it already happened to her with Riyo Togo and for her it was important to make known what was happening at that time because at the end of the day, it is Mariana who puts her life at risk in the ring. Mariana, who suffered a fractured nose in the first round, courageously fought on nine more rounds ignoring blood and considerable discomfort.
“You know that I am a boxer who always goes forward, that I do not give up. I was desperate, as I couldn’t go in and do what I do best, throw punches. I know better than anyone what this is. I do not want my daughter or my sister to feel what I felt that day.
“I congratulate Yulihan, because I recognize that she made a great fight, but if I want a rematch. If she gets the same result , I will say goodbye to boxing, but today I tell you that I will not resign and that as I have always done I will recover and I will rise stronger than ever.”
