Mexican star Mariana “Barby” Juárez will defend her WBC Silver Super Bantamweight Title against Japan’s Tomomi Takano on October 11 in Naucalpan, State of Mexico. Both fighters attended this week’s Martes de Café.
Luis Iván Camacho, Head of the Benefits Unit at the IMSS, invited the public to attend:
“We’d like to invite everyone to this great fight, which will take place on Saturday, October 11, at the Cuauhtémoc Sports Complex in Naucalpan. Admission will be free for all attendees.”
“Barby” shared her excitement and reflected on her long career:
“I’m very happy to be here. It’s been a long road — 27 years in this sport. I’ve achieved many things. I never pursued a unification because I have the best belt, the green and gold. I know I have a strong rival in front of me — Japanese fighters are always warriors. I’m happy to give my fans a war inside the ring in what will be my second-to-last fight. Tomomi and I are friends, and it’s an honor to face her.”
When asked about her retirement plans, Juárez confirmed:
“Yes, 2026 will be my final professional fight. We had originally planned for this one to be the last, but we want my farewell to take place at the Monument to the Revolution.”
Challenger Tomomi Takano expressed her gratitude in Spanish:
“Thank you very much to ‘Barby’ Juárez, to the WBC, and to everyone here.”
Her trainer, Alejandro ‘Pollo’, added:
“We’ve been working on helping her move up in weight, since she’s naturally smaller, and also on improving her defense and her punching power.”
