The World Siam Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, served as the stage for an exciting boxing gala this past March 12, 2026. Under the promotion of Khashaiar Ghassemi, the event featured two high-caliber bouts that resulted in the crowning of new regional monarchs for the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF).
In the featured clash for the OPBF Female Super Featherweight Championship, the representative of Thailand and Pakistan, Laura Akram, made a powerful statement by defeating Thailand’s Jittamat Phomta. Akram showcased physical and technical superiority from the opening bell. The end came at 1 minute and 34 seconds of the third round, when referee Chaveng Krukate halted the contest due to the punishment Akram was delivering, declaring her the winner by TKO. With this victory, Laura Akram becomes the new champion, positioning herself as a rising star to watch in the 130-pound division. The bout was supervised by Damrong Simakajornboon.
Meanwhile, the OPBF Silver Welter Weight title found a new owner in one of the closest and most fiercely contested fights of the night. Shamari Henry, representing Thailand and Jamaica, faced off against the experienced Thai fighter Apinun Khongsong.
After eight rounds of constant exchanges and refined technique from both sides, the decision was left in the hands of the judges. The result was a Split Decision (SD) in favor of Henry, with scorecards reading 77-75, 77-75, and 75-77. Shamari Henry demonstrated great resilience in overcoming Khongsong’s pressure, taking home the Silver belt and taking a firm step toward the WBC world rankings. The match was officiated by referee Chainat Hanwiset.
This successful event in Bangkok reaffirms the commitment of the OPBF and its promoters to provide high-quality platforms for international talent, strengthening the path for fighters toward the global elite.
