Legendary world champion Laila Ali attended the 2025 WBC Women’s Summit, held at the Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
Eighteen years after retiring, Laila is pleased with the way women’s boxing has developed since 1999, when she made her debut in the ring. It took Laila convincing her father, Muhammad Ali, to let her put on some gloves and try her luck, and now, 26 years later, she is one of the biggest names in boxing.
With a record of 24 wins, 21 knockouts, and an A-ranked fighter, Laila spoke about her experience as an active boxer and gave the fighters in attendance advice to help them develop.
“I had one of the biggest supporters, my father, but I was still able to make a name for myself thanks to my hard work and effort. A name that is still remembered and mentioned today,” she commented.
“The women’s meetings are a great example of the WBC’s commitment to opening the necessary spaces for the development of women’s sports, and if this had happened in my time, it would have been extremely beneficial.
“Without a doubt, the Women’s Summit 2025 reaffirmed the WBC’s commitment to the development of women’s boxing.”
