The undefeated South African Khaya Mlata claimed the World Boxing Council (WBC) Youth Super Bantamweight Title after defeating the Congolese fighter Ardy Katompa by split decision.
The match for the vacant title proved to be a highly competitive contest, full of drama and unexpected turns.
The dramatic start of the round favored the fighter from the Congo, Ardy Katompa, who stunned the crowd by sending Khaya Mlata to the canvas with a forceful punch, forcing the referee to administer an eight-count. However, Mlata demonstrated his resilience and made a complete recovery in the second round.
As the rounds progressed, the fight remained extremely close, reaching the seventh round with a tie on the judges’ scorecards. It wasn’t until the eighth round that Khaya Mlata took decisive control, imposing his will and clearly winning that crucial round.
The intensity was maintained until the end, and the final decision was left to the judges. Khaya Mlata was declared the winner by split decision, crowning him as the new WBC Youth Champion.
