South African Kevin Lerena (29-2-0, 14 Kos) aims to neutralize the power of German knockout artist Senad Gashi, who has already unleashed 26 knockouts in 27 wins.
In this fight the interim WBC Bridger title will be contested on Saturday at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park, South Africa.
In May, Lerena secured a twelve-round unanimous decision over Ryad Merhy, allowing the South African star to bounce back from last December’s knockout loss at the hands of Daniel Dubois.
After suffering that loss to Dubois, Lerena dropped weight to compete in the bridgerweight category, a successful division created by the WBC between heavyweight and cruiserweight.
Gashi has gone 10-0-1 in his last eleven in-ring appearances. All three of his losses came at heavyweight limit. Two of these were agaisnt Carlos Takam and Derek Chisora.
The winner will have a tilt agaisnt the current WBC overall bridger champion, Lukasz Rozanski of Poland, if he can successfully defend his crown against former three-division champion Badou Jack.
This Friday both warriors passed the official weigh-in reporting in excellent shape for this important fight.
