The activity of the World Boxing Council is inaugurated this January 22nd with the attractive match between WBC featherweight Monarch, Gary Russell Jr , from the USA against rising Filipino star, Mark Magsayo.
Experience matched against Youth! Russell Jr has brilliantly and consistently consolidated his place as the most solid current champion, reigning the division for 7 years. He has faced several undefeated mandatory challengers to do so, and against Magsayo, he will have one of the toughest fights of his career due to the Filipino’s vitality and power. A fight that undoubtedly promises to be considered among the best of this year.
The boxing family is eagerly anticipating for them to step into the ring at the Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City. However, before doing so, the protagonists presented a series of requirements that the WBC has implemented for years with the firm intention of protecting fighters` wellbeing. These include: Blood tests, MRI, ophthalmological exams, physical tests and pre-weigh-ins.
The World Boxing Council recognizes the professionalism of the champion, the challenger, and their respective teams, since they have complied with all the medical requirements, exams and safety protocols that the WBC needs.
We admire the commitment of WBC featherweight world champion Gary Russell jr. and challenger Mark Magsayo for fulfilling all of this.
We wish them the best of luck in their fight this Saturday, which will undoubtedly be a great inaugural battle for the thrilling WBC boxing action of this 2022.
