Julio Cesar Chávez fulfills his promise with artisan genius Reyna Rayon

 Last September the WBC, along with with the State of Mexico and the Rubico Art Gallery presented the OTOMÍ BELT, a unique piece embroidered by hand by the artisan Reyna Rayon.

It captures  communion with the colors and symbolism of the chromatic plus  the values of the Government of the State of Mexico. There’s a represent of harmony based on the love and affection of the family, the diversity, the fertility of the valleys. Also inspiration to protect the rights and freedoms of women; the future and drive of our youth; the field, productivity; the joy and motivation to serve others, equality, tolerance and equal opportunities.

 A handmade jewel that the Rubico Art Gallery complemented,  with a masterful inlay of obsidian stone, in the epicenter of the belt.

This belt itself commemorated the third exhibition fight between the great Mexican champion Julio César Chávez and Jorge Arce and was made by the brilliant artisan Reyna Rayon Salinas, the main promoter of their culture around the world. 

Reyna’s work has crossed borders, frontiers  and traversed oceans. She has proudly shared her ancestral knowledge about the Otomi culture, as she did at the World Forum of Mexican Gastronomy, held in the United States, where she presented traditional dishes, such as mole blanco.

Other countries including the Vatican, Canada and Japan know of Reyna`s extraordinary work,  thanks to her impetus to connect with the traditions and roots that give identity to the State of Mexico. Now,  her work reaches a sports summit, which  is well known and enjoyed throughout the world of Boxing.

On this occasion, Mrs. Reyna was thrilled  not only to be part of this incredible project but to be able to meet, – at least virtually- two of the great stars of the ring. That morning Reyna told  Julio Cesar Chavez the great admiration she felt towards him and  he committed to send an autographed glove.

Today, our beloved champion fulfilled that promise and Mrs. Reyna now has in her hands the glove signed by her idol. She thanked Julio, commenting that his humility is one of his main virtues.
