Mexican boxing is buzzing with excitement ahead of the professional debut of Juan “El Güerito de Tepito” Pérez, who will step into the ring on November 22 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on a major card headlined by David Benavidez and Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez.
With an impressive amateur record of 90-4, Pérez has emerged as one of the most promising young talents in Mexican boxing.
Although he has trained primarily in the United States, Juan remains deeply connected to his roots in Tepito. “Wherever I go, people call me ‘Güerito,’” he said, adding that his full focus is now on his goals: “train, sleep, train.”
Despite feeling some pressure, the 16-year-old told RECORD he’s motivated by the support of his community: “I feel a bit of pressure, but at the same time I’m happy with all the people who support me… I’m very excited for this fight… I’m nervous, but happy.”
Juan also revealed his long-term ambition: after his debut in Saudi Arabia, he hopes to fight in Mexico and eventually earn a shot at a WBC world title.
For his trainers and promoters—including the Benavidez Team—starting his pro career on such a major international stage is a clear sign of his potential.
