Former world champion Joichiro Tatsuyoshi, celebrates half a century today.
Born in 1970 in the Kurashiki province of Okayama, he is one of the most remarkable and fondly remembered Japanese champions in boxing history.
Joichiro began training boxing as a child, standing out as outstanding in the amateur field. In 1989 he turned professional and in only his fourth fight he was crowned Japanese bantamweight champion.
The WBC Bantamweight Crown won in his eighth professional fight in 1991. He had wars that we will always remember with Greg Richardson, Víctor Rabanales, Daniel Zaragoza, Yasuei Yakushiji, Sirimongkhon Iamthuam and Paulie Ayala.
Unfortunately during his career he battled several eye injuries, but that never stopped him from becoming a triple world champion.
He retired in 2009 with a record of 20 wins with 14 knockouts, 7 losses and a draw. He has currently working as aN expert commentator and as a coach, mainly for his son, Juiki Tatsuyoshi, who has so far gone undefeated in 13 bouts.
Happy “Big Five O” Birthday champ!
