
The World Boxing Council strawweight champion, Filipino Melvin Jerusalem, will make the first defense of his title against the Mexican Luis “Flechita” Castillo, this coming Sunday, September 22 at the Mandaluyong City Gymnasium in the Philippines.
Melvin Jerusalem, 30 years old, has a record of 22 wins, three losses and 12 knockouts. He became the WBC strawweight champion by defeating Japanese Yudai Shigeoka by decision.
Castillo, 27 years old, is an undefeated fighter with 21 wins as a professional, with one draw and 13 knockouts. The undefeated Mexican will have the first opportunity in his career to fight for a world crown.
Both fighters were face to face for the first time, before entering the ring.
“I know it will be a tough fight, but I know we will come out victorious. And I want to tell the champion to enjoy his days as world champion,” Castillo said.
Jerusalem commented:
“He is having fun here in the Philippines, I appreciate that he came here. We will see in the fight what happens.”
