May 30th was 15 years since the World Boxing Council awarded the first championship in its history for women’s boxing.
It happened at the Grand Hotel Tijuana, where Jackie Nava defeated American boxer Leona Brown by unanimous decision, to proclaim herself the WBC Super Bantamweight World Champion.
On May 30, 2005, Jackie stepped into the ring at 9-1-1, 7 ko’s. She had a great supporting crown. In their thousands, they answered Jackie’s call and filled the Auditorium because for this heroine would be in a historic fight, and because the rival was a fighter with great experience with a record of 13-14- 0 and that she had already been world champion.
Never discount Nava! ackie sent Leona to the canvas in the first round. It seemed like the fight would end quickly. However, the American’s experience, sheer grit and resources not only kept her afloat, but she was competitive.
With this great masterful performance, the WBC crowned the first world female champion in its history, Jackie Nava.
