Iran Barkley, one of the most fearsome fighters of his time, has been honored with a mural in the Bronx, New York.
Iran was one of the great Warriors who animated boxing cards from the late ’80s to the late ’90s. His career spanned from 1982 to 1999, he was a strong boxer with great power and heart.
Barkley was a machine advancing, pressing, and throwing punches from all angles. His physical power and amazing resistance meant that he was a formable rival. He was born in the Bronx, New York, on May 6, 1960, and was the youngest of eight siblings.
In his career he had a time with tremendous boxers, he got into a Ring against Sumbu Kalambay, Michael Nunn, Michael Olajide, Thomas Hearns, Roberto Durán, James Toney, Nigel Benn, Darryl Van Horn, Gerrie Coetzee and Trevor Berbick. He was world champion at 160, 168 and 175 lbs, and in the final part of his career, he was fighting as a heavyweight.
The mural was unveiled at Patterson Projects in the Bronx, New York, and Iran Barklay, Jill Diamond, Dennis Milton, and other personalities were present.
Hundreds of people have visited the mural that honors a humble man who became a 3-division WBC world champion. A champion of champions.
