Saúl “Canelo” Alvarez is preparing to fight in his homeland of Mexico, for the first time in twelve years.
The Guadalajara Superstar has announced that his next fight, will be on home turf of Guadalajara, Jalisco in May. State Governor Enrique Alfaro, was also part of “The Dozen Announcement” video published via social networks.
“This 2023, Jalisco celebrates 200 years free and sovereign. Two centuries of a history of struggle by women and men who created and provided direction for our nation. We want to honor this heritage through those who uphold the name of Jalisco in the present,” Enrique Alfaro explained in the video that was posted on his Twitter account.
In this video Saúl Álvarez said: “That is why I am ready to return home and defend my titles in the place where I was born and where my story began, with the people who have always unwaveringly supported me. In May of this year, I will fight for Jalisco and celebrate the greatness of our land. See you soon!”
Details are under discussion and have yet to be finalized. However, provisionally, it could be held on May 6, at the Jalisco Stadium, at the Akron Stadium or on March 3 Stadium, and Saul`s rival could be the Englishman John Ryder. More details to follow.
