WBC Super Bantamweight Champion Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado, grows down the gauntlet, staking her title, against Isis “Emperatriz” Vargas, on Saturday night, at the Rodrigo M. Quevedo Municipal Gymnasium of Chihuahua, Mexico.
Mercado initially planned to face Zulina “La Loba” Muñoz, but she was injured, and her place is taken by Vargas, from Mexico City.
Mercado has a record of 18-3-0, 5 knockouts, and this Saturday she will make her third title defense.
Vargas won the FECOMBOX super bantamweight champion, defeating the experienced María Elena Villalobos. In her most recent fight, last December, she knocked out Karina Hernández in 5 rounds.
Of her three defeats, two have been against former world champions, Irma “Torbellino” García and “Loba” Muñoz. The other loss was also on points, to world-ranked Melissa Esquivel, in 2020.
This Friday both fighters passed the weigh-in without problems. Yamileth was 116.8 pounds, while Isis registered 119 pounds.
The fight is organized by Zanfer and 2M Promotions and will be televised by Azteca 7.
