Following his buckling victory, overwhelming Zaur Abdullaev (11-1, 7 KOs) at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden, and with it the Interim WBC lightweight Belt, ambitious Devin Haney is Absolutely aiming for one notch higher.
Haney’s (23-0, 15KOs) now determined to fight Absolute Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (14-1, 10 knockouts).
“I would love to convince Lomachenko to fight with Haney. I honestly think it will be a difficult fight because of television channels, but we will do our best to carry the day.” Promoter Eddie Hearn told BoxingScene.
Lomachenko won the vacant WBC belt with a 12-round victory over Englishman Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 knockouts) in an entertaining fight between 2012 Olympic gold medalists.
At its upcoming Convention next month, the World Boxing Council will define the situation of Lomachenko and Haney.
