Boxer’s Day was commemorated in honor of the male and female fighters worldwide who have left their mark on the sport. The date celebrates the birth of José Sulaimán, lifelong President of the World Boxing Council.

Julio César Chávez aimed to contribute to the fight against one of the diseases…cancer…that claims the most lives worldwide. The Mexican boxing legend was the main protagonist of a charity gala held in Madrid, Spain, alongside other great personalities such as Sandor Martín and Javier Castillejo, as well as other celebrities like Omar Montes and actress Carlota Boza.

During “Martes de Café” (Coffee Tuesday), scholarships were awarded to boxers to enable them to focus 100% on their boxing careers without financial worries. The “Don José Sulaiman” scholarships, sponsored by businessman Emilio López and federal congressman Oscar Bautista, provide monthly payments of 10,000 pesos. Five scholarships were awarded to amateur boxers and one to a professional boxer.

The WBC was present at the inauguration of the José Sulaiman Chagnón gym. Located in Chalco, State of Mexico, this gym is dedicated to combating addictions in young people and guiding them into the world of sport.

In an all-Polish battle for the interim WBC Bridgerweight world championship, Krzysztof “Diablo” Włodarczyk defeated Adam Balski in a great fight at the Hala Sportowo-Widowiskowa Arena in Poland.

Nathaniel Collins defeated Lee McGregor in the fourth round to win the WBC Silver Featherweight title.

Maxi “Maximus” Hughes defeated Archie Sharp by unanimous decision, becoming the WBC Silver Lightweight champion.

555 Media Agency, in collaboration with Bash Boxing, presented the “Defending Mental Health: A Night of Boxing” fight card, a special charity event dedicated to raising awareness about mental health in sports.

For the fifth consecutive year, the “Mi Chante” Foundation held a Golf Tournament in Tijuana in honor of José Sulaimán Chagnón, raising funds to support and develop new sports figures.

The WBC continues to expand its global fitness initiative with the successful completion of the WBC Fitness Trainers Program in the coastal city of Qingdao, China. The seminar brought together a group of passionate fitness professionals from across China.

The great Nino Benvenuti passed away at eighty-seven years old, and with him, a golden era of boxing has been relegated to the pages of history in Italy and worldwide.

The World Boxing Council donated a state-of-the-art ring to the Malawi Professional Boxing Control Board (MPBCB) to enhance boxer safety during bouts. This is part of the 2025 Year of Africa celebrations, an initiative named by the World Boxing Council to commemorate the history, achievements, magnificence, and splendor of African boxing.

A memorable event was held in the heart of Hollywood, California, honoring the legendary Freddie Roach for his remarkable 30-year career at the Wild Card Boxing Club. The city of Los Angeles took a significant step by honoring his contributions, renaming the nearby shopping center as Freddie Roach Square—a well-deserved tribute to a man who has dedicated his life to boxing, becoming a revered figure in the community.

At a press conference held in Anaheim, California, the first face-off between Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. took place. They will face each other on June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim.

In New York City, was presented a major card featuring Englishman Hamzah Sheeraz, who will move up a weight class to face Edgar Berlanga in a WBC super middleweight eliminator. In the second main event of the evening, Shakur Stevenson and William Zepeda will face off in a WBC lightweight title consolidation bout.

Japan’s Naoya “Monster” Inoue successfully defended his undisputed Super Bantamweight titles by defeating a valiant Ramón Cárdenas on a Top Rank-organized card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The WBC created a special belt with the slogan “Gray in May” in honor of Brain Cancer Awareness Month and in commemoration of Jesselyn Silva, a young fighter who wanted to become an Olympic and WBC champion but unfortunately died of brain cancer.
This beautiful belt was won by Naoya Inoue after defeating Ramón Cárdenas.

Mexico’s Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez regained his undisputed Super Middleweight World Champion status by defeating Cuba’s William Scull via unanimous decision over 12 rounds in the main event of a fight card held at The Venue Riyadh Season in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The “Xicoténcatl” Tlaxcala 2025 Belt, a masterpiece of design and symbolism is crafted by Imperio de Metal. This unique belt is deeply inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Tlaxcala, honoring the spirit of a legendary warrior and the vibrant artistic traditions of the region. The design of the plate is inspired by the iconic Birdman mural from the archaeological site of Cacaxtla. This powerful figure, depicted with a bird’s headdress and in a ceremonial posture on a feathered serpent, has been reinterpreted as an allegory of combative spirit, transformation and the connection between the earthly and the divine.
This special belt was won by Saul Canelo Alvarez by defeating William Scull.

Sweden’s Badou Jack successfully defended his WBC Cruiserweight title, defeating the champion in recess, Armenia’s Noel Mikaelian, by majority decision in a bout held at The Venue Riyadh Season in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
