The WBC has worked long and hard, hand in hand with indigenous communities, highlighting diverse cultures through its Mexican artisans who have transformed the WBC belt into true pieces of art, each one representing the best of their culture. Up to now we have had the Huichol Belt, the Chiapaneco, Maya, Mazahua, Otomi and Puebla / Jalisco.
And today, a new work of art joins this family of belts, the Puebla belt, a jewel created by artisan hands that fuse the cosmogony of the Puebla culture, with all the most representative elements of the State.
At first glance, the belt is a fusion of color and beauty in which two of the most important craft techniques in the State of Puebla were used: talavera and embroidery.
Artisan Matilde Juárez, who connected via zoom to this great presentation, explained that the colors applied in the embroidery are the most representative patterns of different locations in the state of Puebla and she mentioned twelve highly skilled people worked on this piece, lovingly and expertly instilling the very essence of their culture and traditions.
Artisan Angélica Moreno from the Talavera de la Reyna workshop explained that the belt has around 28 Talavera pieces that were incorporated into this belt, and some of them were shaped into diamonds.
She added that the feathering that is representative of Puebla and in this edition was done in black with the intention of bringing out an ancient design to the present day, managing to transmit and preserve the Puebla tradition.
Likewise, the Cathedral of Puebla was portraited, which is one of the most representative monuments, supported by two angels, who are an important part of the history of the State.
World Boxing Council President Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán, was honored and thrilled to present this new WBC jewel, a gift from Mexico to the world that bears the heart of a vibrant state, full of culture, tradition and which reminds us of our roots.
He also explained that the Green and Gold Belt is the emblem of the WBC and the highest recognition for those who enter the ring; However, in this tireless search for innovation, the organization created a series of special and unique belts, in order to reward and recognize the fights that have transcended the history of boxing.
In a very special way, he thanked everyone who in one way or another was involved in this process since it is a work of months, from the conception of the design to its manufacturing.
For Elizabeth Reyes from Industrias Reyes and Miguel Ángel Jurado, a Mexican artisan, it was a true honor to participate again in the process of this commemorative belt because in addition to the fact that it is a unique belt that carries the soul of our Mexico. It was also a challenge of ingenuity for them thinking and designing the best way to assemble each segment and seeing from the beginning how our artisans do their best, working hand in hand with them, fusing techniques with a common yet brilliant objective.
For Daniel Aceves, this belt is a true masterpiece, a testimony to the creativity and genius of Mexican artisans, a unique and unrepeatable medal, a source of inspiration and pride, which represents not only his own achievements in the ring but also the rich cultural heritage of our beautiful country.
A more than spectacular presentation in which great personalities from the world of gloves were present, such as Juan Hernández, Judith Rodríguez and the Olympic medalist Antonio Roldán, to name just a few.
