Getting to know Shakur Stevenson: From amateur boxer to WBC lightweight world champion
Ash-Shakur Nafi Shahid Stevenson, known as Shakur Stevenson, was born on June 28, 1997, in Newark, New Jersey, USA.
Since then, he has crafted an extraordinary career in boxing, standing out from his beginnings in the amateur scene to becoming a professional world champion in three different weight classes, including the prestigious WBC lightweight world title since 2023.
In the amateur arena, Stevenson collected multiple youth titles between 2013 and 2015. In 2016, at just 18 years old, he won the U.S. Olympic trials and took home the silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games, where he lost by a split decision to Cuban Robeisy Ramírez.

And in July 2025, he delivered one of the most significant victories of his career, defeating William Zepeda by unanimous decision at the iconic Louis Armstrong Stadium, solidifying his status as one of the current top figures in world boxing.
