Throughout his career, Saul Canelo Álvarez has faced champions and title contenders, who entered the ring with a perfect record yet, the Mexican Marvel put them to the test and proved his Star Quality.
The list of opponents who have seen their winning streaks curtailed by the Mexican since becoming a world champion is long, and this coming Saturday Terence Crawford—who also has an undefeated record—could be added to it.
Austin Trout – 2013
He entered with a 26-0 record and the confidence of being a world champion. Canelo defeated him by unanimous decision in a key fight to boost his rise.

Liam Smith – 2016
A Brit who came in undefeated at 23-0-1. His aggressive style wasn’t enough: Canelo stopped him with a powerful body shot and handed him his first loss.

Gennady Golovkin – 2017
In their first clash, “GGG” held a perfect 37-0 record. The fight ended in a draw, though in their rematches Canelo emerged victorious.

Callum Smith – 2020
Oh brother! He arrived at 27-0. Canelo clearly outclassed him over 12 rounds and took the win by unanimous decision.

Billy Joe Saunders – 2021
Saunders also carried an undefeated 30-0 record. However, after a tactical battle, he couldn’t continue due to a fractured orbital bone. Canelo won by technical retirement (RTD).

Caleb Plant – 2021
In the fight that unified all the super middleweight titles, Plant entered at 21-0. The Mexican stopped him by technical knockout in the 11th round, becoming the undisputed champion.

Jaime Munguía – 2024
Canelo’s fellow compatriot Jaime Munguía was atop his stats target. He came in 43-0, but Canelo prevailed by unanimous decision.

Edgar Berlanga – 2024
In a fiery, peppery, heated matchup fueled by trash talk irritation, Canelo handed Puerto Rican Edgar Berlanga (22-0) his first loss with a clear unanimous decision victory.

William Scull – 2025
The fleet of foot, evasive Cuban fighter Scull entered with a 23-0 record, but suffered his first setback against the Mexican. It was a tedious fight, as Scull spent much of it running and back pedaling, but in the end Canelo prevailed.
