One of the best fighters in history Claressa Shields, will defend her undisputed middleweight title on June 3 at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan, against the Costa Rican Hanna Gabriels, in an attractive rematch that will be broadcast by DAZN.
Both fighters were face to face at a press conference held at Little Caesars Arena, where several Detroit champions and contenders were present, namely Thomas “Hitman” Hearns, Hilmer Kenty, Bronco McKart and Tony Harrison.
This will be the first time Shields has fought in the United States since 2021, when she became the undisputed junior middleweight champion by defeating Marie-Eve Dicaire in her hometown of Flint, Michigan.
Gabriels is the only fighter to have knocked Shields down during her career, sending her to the canvas in the first round of a fight Claressa ultimately won via unanimous decision.
Gabriels (21-2-1, 12 KOs), 40, won his next three fights after losing to Shields and captured the WBC heavyweight title.
Shields, 28, last fought in October at London’s O2 Arena, where she defeated Savannah Marshall by unanimous decision for the undisputed middleweight title. The win had avenged Shields’ only boxing loss (13-0, 2 KOs) in her amateur career.
