Legendary Mexican former champion Ricardo “Finito” Lopez, 57 years old, arrived in Tokyo, Japan from Mexico City for a very special event.
This Tuesday, September 24, the honorable guest Ricardo Lopez appeared at the Tokyo Dome, in Tokyo, where a ceremony called “Reunion” was held in which Ricardo Lopez was greeted by Japanese former world straw-weight champion Hideyuki Ohashi, 59 years old, whom he defeated by TKO in the fifth round and was crowned WBC champion, in a fight that took place at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo 34 years ago, precisely in October 1990.
The Korakuen Hall in Tokyo is the starting point of the great and historic career of Ricardo Lopez as WBC world straw-weight champion, successfully defending the title he held on 21 occasions.
At the ceremony, Ricardo Lopez and Hideyuki Ohashi were face to face after ten years without seeing each other, following that occasion of the WBC Annual Convention in 2014 in Las Vegas.
The memorable and touching reunion between these two great former champions, Ricardo Lopez and Hideyuki Ohashi, was made possible thanks to the Japanese promoter Issei Nakaya, who is the president of Nakaya Boxing Gym in Hachiojo, Tokyo, which is a tribute to Hideyuki Ohashi, who is now a successful promoter who organized a great card last May in Tokyo Dome, where the Japanese and undisputed super bantamweight world champion Naoya “Monster” Inoue, defeated his Mexican challenger Luis Nery.
