February is heart health month

Many people have symptoms of chest pains when they are having a heart attack, however some may have stomach pain, shortness of breath, palpitations in their chest, nausea, and dizziness which can be diagnosed as something less severe.

Heart attack signs women and men can miss:

• unusual fatigue for several days, or a quick onset
• sleep disturbances
• shortness of breath
• lightheadedness, nausea, or a cold sweat
• digestion or gas-like pain
• pain in one or both arms, pain that goes to the neck, jaw, or back
• pressure in the center of your chest that may spread to your arm

Many often don’t realize the potential signs of a heart attack. Researchers found nearly 50% of men and women thought their symptoms were related to non-cardiac conditions, and if they did relate it to cardiac concerns, it was thought to be indigestion or acid reflux. Almost 30% of women related their symptoms to stress and anxiety.
