With 16 exciting and memorable finals at the Ring Central gym in Mexico City, champions of the “José Sulaimán Chagnon” tournament emerged, with the event organized by the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) and sanctioned by the WBC Amateur.
The event was attended by Mr. Pablo Vázquez Camacho, head of the SSC, and the former world champions Carlos Zárate, Miguel Ángel González, Isaac Bustos, Mariana Juárez and Irma García.
In the best fight of the day, Hernán Avendaño, from Gym Romanza, defeated Garik Dailan Romero, from the Undersecretary of Intelligence and Police Investigation, by split decision, in the 60-63 kilo division.
The fight was thrilling all action and finally Hernán Avendaño was proclaimed monarch to receive the WBC Amateur trophy.
In other results, Mario Alberto Meléndez defeated Jorge Alfredo Rubio by unanimous decision, at 57-60 kg.
Eduardo Flores, from the Poniente Zone Coordination, won by split decision over Diego Iván Reséndiz, in 66-69 kg.
Edgar Reyes, from the Undersecretary of Citizen Participation, knocked out Alfredo Román Melchor, from the Undersecretary of Intelligence, in the first round, at 79-72 kg.
In more finals, Andrés Cruz won by TKO in the first against Víctor Hugo Mauries, in the 80-83 kg category; Jhovani Ortiz by split decision to Bruno Emiliano Chiron, at 69-72 kg; Ricardo Hernández by unanimous decision to Darwin Peña in 54-57 kg and Juan Abascal by decision to Daniel Espitia, in 54-57 kg.
Luis Fernando Paz knocked out Joaquín de la Cruz in three rounds, at 72-75 kg, and David Loza knocked out Aarón Martínez by unanimous decision, at 75-78 kg.
Orlando Aarón Barajas won by split decision over Javier Hernández, at 63-65 kg and at heavyweight, Aarón Israel Pichardo, from the General Directorate of Reaction and Immediate Intervention Operations, beat Irving Tinoco by split decision.
In the women’s division, in 48-52 kg, Jessica Salas is the new champion after defeating Alejandra Lazcano by unanimous decision; and at 69-72 kg, Claudia Martínez knocked out Beatriz Lerma in the third episode.
In 58-62 kg, Violeta Belem Mejía won by split decision against Claudia González and Dulce Vázquez by unanimous decision against Guadalupe Pérez, in 62-65 kg.
The presentation of the WBC Amateur belts and trophies to the new champions was done by Secretary of the SSC, Pablo Vázquez Camacho and Mariana Juárez.
Vázquez Camacho thanked the World Boxing Council and its president Mauricio Sulaimán for their support in promoting and developing the sport in the Secretariat of Citizen Security and all the participants of the police department for their effort and dedication in the “José Sulaimán Chagnón” tournament.
He congratulated the champions and runners-up for their fights and invited them to continue in boxing.
