Anthony Dirrell, of Flint, Michigan, will seek to recover the super middleweight title of the World Boxing Council that he lost by decision against the Swedish Badou Jack.
Dirrell fights Turkish Avni Yildirum for the vacant WBC title on Saturday in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on an attractive card that will be broadcast on FOX (10 pm ET / 7 pm PT).
Dirrell (32-1-1, 24 KOs) was ordered to fight against Yildirim (21-1, 12 KOs) after undefeated 168-pound champion David Benavidez (20-, 17 KOs) was declared “Champion in recess” at the WBC Convention last October.
Benavidez was suspended for six months after an adverse result in a test conducted as part of the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program.
“I am ready to recover the green and gold title. I have done an excellent preparation and we have a work plan that we can adjust as the fight goes on. I expect a tough fight, but I have all the tools to come out with victory ” Dirrell said, who made history as the first boxer to win a WBC title, after having won a tough battle against cancer.
