World Boxing Council and WBO bantamweight champion Dina Thorslund retained her belts by defeating the fearless Mary Romero (9-5) with an eighth-round knockout on Saturday in Denmark.
Romero came to the fight replacing Turkish challenger Seren Cetin at the last minute after suffering a cut to her eye that did not allow her to get into the ring. Mary looked dangerous from the start, throwing power punches with both hands; However, Thorslund demonstrated her skilled and precise counterpunching skills by dodging blows and landing many of her own.
Thorslund also landed often to the body of Romero, who looked more and more exhausted as the rounds went by.
It was in the eighth when Dina landed a right hook and Romero turned her back on the action, forcing the referee to stop the fight.
In this way, Thorslund improved her undefeated record to 21-0 with 9 KOs and defended her WBC crown for the first time.
