Cuauhtémoc Municipal Government lauds Yamileth Mercado

Yamileth Mercado was named this Monday as  “Sports Ambassador” in Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua, after conquering the prestigious international super bantamweight title of the World Boxing Council  at Poliforum Cuauhtémoc.

Yamileth’s triumph over Venezuela’s Alys Perez puts her very close to contesting the absolute belt.

Wearing her uniform as a nursing student from the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juarez, Yamileth stressed that this triumph is an example of dedication and discipline. She`s urging  young people to follow her example to achieve great feats.

In recognition, the municipal government presented financial support to the International champion and instructed Christina Bejarano, head of the Municipal Sports Institute, to name a new sports gym being built… “Yamileth Mercado.”

Grateful for the support she received from the fans last Saturday, Yamileth said she is ready to begin the journey towards become the WBC’s absolute world champion.
