Covid Crisis Heroes Wanted for  Mazahua-Otomí belt

Scholas Ocurrentes, a foundation created by Pope Francis I, El Heraldo de México and the World Boxing Council (WBC) have combined  to recognize Heroes for Humanity.

The prize will be the Mazahua – Otomí Belt, which was designed for the winner of the fight between the Mexican Saúl Álvarez and the British Billy Joe Saunders, which is why today the entire country is called to nominate, starting this Monday, June 8 and until July 8.   The winner will be any person or institution that has outstandingly helped for the good of their community in Mexico.

“There are many, many heroes every day doing many extraordinary tasks for society; be they doctors, scientists, nurses, stretcher bearers, paramedics, policemen, who go out to distribute supplies.  There are so many positive actions and for this reason we decided that the Adolfo López Mateos Belt is the concept of gratitude towards all those who give something for Mexico and Mexicans in this health, emotional and economic crisis,” said Mauricio Sulaimán, President of the WBC.

The belt  will be presented to the most outstanding hero/ heroine in all of Mexico. Also, thirty two small replicas were  made to recognize the most prominent characters in each of the country’s entities.

“These 32 pieces were made that are on a smaller scale, one per state, which will also be delivered in each entity and we will also present 10 medals as honorary recognition of those great stories, and all the nominees will receive recognition from the WBC. A special jury is being created with highly honorable people to choose the winners.”

Upon receipt of the nominations, the jury will take 15 days for the deliberation process and the goal is to meet the winner of the award in late July or early August.

“We have each experienced situations that have touched our hearts: a neighbor, a police officer, a stretcher-bearer or a doctor. There are many heroes; I have had to see shocking things and it is the opportunity to thank them, he said.

The Adolfo López Mateos Belt, clad in pre-Hispanic cultures, was born in 2017 to be delivered in the fights of May 5 and September 16; This year, due to the quarantine, Canelo’s fight against Saunders was canceled, in which the sash would be given, and for this reason it was decided to give it to a hero of Covid.

“We still don’t see the end. We are in the middle of the process, but the end will be a happy story. Last year at the World Boxing Council he recognized Don Alfredo Harp Helú for his altruistic work; We are consistent in the value of this belt and that this new recognition could be delivered annually. ”

There is no age limit; You can propose a candidate from a child to a senior.

The nominee does not need to sign documents or carry commitment letters that prove that he accepted his candidacy.
