Ring legend Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. was present and correct at a press conference in New York City, to meet his opponent John Gotti III, whom he’ll fight on Saturday, August 24 at the iconic Mexico City Arena.
They had some choice words:
Floyd Mayweather Jr: “I truly believe that if I had received a lot of damage in the sport of boxing throughout my career, I probably wouldn’t continue doing exhibitions or putting on boxing shows, but I had a great career so I feel like I can continue going out, having fun and putting on shows around the world… last time I checked, I have beaten more fighters who are in the Hall of Fame than any other fighter in history and that is truly a blessing. Gotti is a tough competitor and I take my hat off to him. I was born to be a boxer, I will die a boxer.”
John Gotti III: “I want this to be remembered as a very entertaining fight. Floyd keeps saying the same thing, saying ‘exhibition boxing’ and ‘exhibition boxing.’ I’ve been watching Floyd all my life, ever since I was a kid. I’ve never seen Floyd come early to an event. I came early in Florida and he was already there warming up. I’ve never seen Floyd prepare the way he has, and I’ve never seen Floyd throw as many punches in two minutes as he did in our fight. So obviously it was a fight. Obviously, he wanted to hurt me and knock me out. So he’s not going to fool me again with this exhibition nonsense. He’s coming to knock me out again and I’m going to try to knock him out this time.”
